A new building of the Alexandrovsky psycho-neurological boarding house for the elderly and disabled was solemnly opened in Sharkovshchina.
In October 2022, construction of the social institution began by the construction enterprises "Rassvet Postavsky" and Sharkovshchyna PMK-68. And now, in a year and seven months, a modern building has been erected for the category of citizens requiring constant care.
The hosts of the event offered a brief excursion into the history of the institution's origin and existence. According to documentary evidence, before the start of the Great Patriotic War, a boarding house for orphans existed in this village in the buildings of the former manor. In 1955, it changed its profile and became a home for disabled people. At different times, the institution changed its name, but the direction of activity remained unchanged – social assistance to incapacitated citizens.
Honored guests attended the ceremony: Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergienko, Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin, Assistant to the President – Inspector for the Vitebsk Region Sergey Levkovich, and others. Representatives of the authorities presented gift certificates for improving the material base of the boarding house. In turn, the head of the district Dmitry Lamako and the director of the social institution Maryan Pavlovich expressed gratitude to the builders who worked diligently and professionally on the construction of the building on weekdays and weekends. The director of the boarding house expressed great gratitude to the representatives of the authorities for the opportunity to build the new facility, and to everyone who contributed to this good cause.
After cutting the red ribbon and handing over the symbolic key, the dean of the Sharkovshchyna church district, Archpriest Viktor Voloshchuk, performed the consecration ceremony of the new building and presented an icon that will become a talisman for the residents.
The institution currently houses about 170 citizens suffering from mental disorders and deemed incapacitated. The staff of the boarding house take care of everyone. Undoubtedly, with the commissioning of the new building, the living conditions have improved. The staff now also work in a comfortable environment. Those present could be convinced of this when they familiarized themselves with the new facility.
Soon, the renovated Alexandrovsky boarding house will be renamed a social boarding house and will acquire a new image.
