Vitebsk has its own anthem

У Витебска появился свой гимн

Vitebsk has its own anthem. Today, at a session of the Vitebsk City Council of Deputies, deputies approved one of the six options presented at the city competition, reports a BELTA correspondent.

The winner of the competition was recognized as "Pesnya ab Vitsebsku" (Song about Vitebsk). The author of the lyrics is Tamara Krasnova-Gusachenko, a member of the Union of Writers of Belarus, and the music was composed by local composer Alexander Rauzo. This work, after public discussion, was approved by a specially created regional commission, which included, in addition to representatives of the Vitebsk creative intelligentsia, honored artists of the republic Vladimir Baidov, Galina Gorelova, and Viktor Voitk.

Natalia Shienok, Head of the Culture Department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, who presented "Pesnya ab Vitsebsku" to the city council deputies, noted that this competition entry is executed at a high professional level, has a bright melodic basis, and a solemn sound. "The lyrics fragmentarily describe the city of Vitebsk, historical facts, legendary events, and emphasize the heroism of past generations, which is important for this type of work," said Natalia Shienok.

Minsk, Brest, Grodno, Borisov, Zhodino, Baranovichi, and Polotsk already have their own anthems. City anthems traditionally sound before the start and end of broadcasts by city television and radio stations, and at ceremonies for important historical and socio-political events.
