Vitebsk region will have its own coat of arms book

May 20, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Vitebsk region will have its own heraldic register. Archivists are preparing to publish a book with descriptions and images of all coats of arms of the administrative-territorial units of the region by the end of the current year, the deputy head of the main department - head of the department for archives and record keeping of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Sergey Rublevsky, told a BELTA correspondent. And today, the region's first exhibition of coats of arms and flags of the administrative-territorial units of the region opened in Vitebsk. It features 63 heraldic symbols, including 37 coats of arms of settlements and districts. The exhibition is opened by the State Coat of Arms and Flag of the Republic of Belarus and the Coat of Arms and Flag of the Vitebsk Region. The first recipient of heraldic symbols in the post-Soviet era in 1994 was Polotsk. Since then, coats of arms and flags have appeared not only in cities and districts, but even in the village of Perebrodye. In the near future, coats of arms and flags may appear in the settlements of Balbasovo and Orekhovsk in the Orsha district, a flag - in Verkhnedvinsk (it received its coat of arms much earlier), and in general, by the end of the year, the region's heraldic list will be supplemented by about 10 more symbols. As Sergey Rublevsky noted, the competent use of state symbols has a huge educational and ideological effect. "Now heraldry is being used competently," he said. For example, in Vitebsk, state institutions now display three flags: in the center - the State Flag of Belarus, to its left - the flag of the region, and to its right - the flag of the city. The coats of arms of the regional center and the region have become appropriately used in the design of high-rise buildings and at the entrances to the city. -0-
