The first cutting of grasses will be completed in the Vitebsk region this week, Chairman of the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Sergey Dogel told a BELTA correspondent. As of July 5, 245 thousand hectares of grasslands have been mowed in the region, or 98% of the area. 70 thousand tons of hay and 1.8 thousand tons of haylage have been harvested, and 61 thousand tons of silage have been laid in trenches. In total, the volume of harvested forage crops amounted to 556.2 thousand tons of feed units, or 73.2% of the target, including 12 centners per conventional head of cattle. Beshenkovichi, Verkhnedvinsk, Glubokoye, Dokshitsy, Lepel, Postavy, Sennoye, Tolochin, Ushachi, Chashniki and Sharkovshchina districts have completely finished the first cutting of grasses. "All these regions of the oblast have already started the second cutting of grasses. The first 6.2 thousand hectares have been mowed," noted the chairman of the regional agricultural committee. Within the next two days, all other districts of the oblast will also complete the first cutting. Sergey Dogel also added that the region's farmers have begun harvesting cruciferous crops. 425 hectares out of 1.4 thousand hectares of rapeseed have been harvested, and harvesting of rapeseed will begin in the region in the near future. -0-
