Belarus's participation in the "Eastern Partnership" will facilitate economic contacts with Latvia - Mayor of Daugavpils
April 24, Daugavpils / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Belarus' participation in the EU's Eastern Partnership program will facilitate economic contacts with Latvian regions. Rita Stroda, Chairperson of the Daugavpils City Council, who took part in the opening of the business forum "Days of Vitebsk Region in Latgale," expressed hope for this in a conversation with a BELTA correspondent.
Latvian regions have always had and continue to have friendly contacts and a desire to cooperate with Belarus. It is time for politicians to take care of the well-being and prosperity of ordinary people, rather than dividing the world, said the Mayor of Daugavpils. "Common sense must prevail over political backstage games. Now is not the time to think about politics, but the time to think about people," added Rita Stroda.
In her opinion, the productive interregional contacts that are currently being established between Belarusian and Latvian cities and districts will contribute to the economic growth of the states.
In March, at a meeting of the European Council in Brussels, six states were included in the new EU program: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. The Eastern Partnership envisages economic integration and rapprochement between the EU and these states. -0-
