The educational, scientific and production complex was created on the basis of the only pharmacy faculty in Belarus of VGMU
October 16, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovets - BELTA /. The Vitebsk State Medical University has established an educational, scientific, and production complex (ESPC) on the basis of its own pharmacy, where students will practice the skills of manufacturing medicinal products. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the university, Professor Natalya Gurina. The opening of the complex is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the faculty, which will be celebrated in early November.
The ESPC is essentially a small-scale production of extemporaneous dosage forms (solutions, decoctions, powders, ointments, etc.), which students will prepare according to doctors' prescriptions and sell to the public. It is based on the technological principles of pharmaceutical production, i.e., students need to know the ingredients, their compatibility, and the possibility of mixing, and standard methods for quality control of medicinal products are provided. The complex is equipped with modern equipment in accordance with licensing requirements. For the university, this is a very important aspect in terms of improving the quality of the educational process and introducing innovative educational technologies, Natalya Gurina noted.
The creation of an innovative training platform for mastering practical work skills will enable the university to organize all types of production internships for students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, including foreign nationals, on its own basis. In addition, the emergence of such a complex in Vitebsk allows for solving social problems of providing the population with affordable medicines. Extemporaneous medicinal products are inexpensive and meet all the criteria for medicines – efficacy, safety, accessibility, while an individual approach to the patient is implemented, which is important, in particular, for parents with young children and the elderly.
The ESPC will also be an excellent platform for conducting scientific research in this aspect of pharmaceutical activities, believes Natalya Gurina. On its basis, it will be possible to develop new technologies for manufacturing medicinal products, new quality control methods, and conduct marketing research on both substances and finished medicinal products.
"The Faculty of Pharmacy of VSMU is the only one in Belarus, our graduates work in pharmacy network institutions, pharmaceutical enterprises, control and analytical laboratories, and forensic medical examination, so the opportunity to acquire practical skills on our own basis should improve the quality of education and is a clear example of an innovative approach to organizing the educational process," the interlocutor added. -0-
