The academic year in Orsha begins with Belarusian Language Week
September 1, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The new academic year in Orsha begins with a week of the Belarusian language, the director of the Museum Complex of History and Culture of Orsha region, Irina Voronova, told a BELTA correspondent.
The event, named after the famous appeal of the poet Frantsishak Bahushevich "Do not abandon our Belarusian language, lest it die!", is designed to draw the attention of the general public, and primarily the youth, to the value of their native language.
The program of the event includes book exhibitions, literary lounges in the city libraries, museum festivals and classes, thematic excursions to places associated with the development of Belarusian writing, meetings with writers, and historical lessons of remembrance. On September 2, a presentation of the exhibition "I Came for You" from the funds of the State Literary and Memorial Museum of Yanka Kupala in Minsk will take place, followed by laying flowers at the monument to Vladimir Korotkevich.
The organizer of the event is the Museum Complex of History and Culture of Orsha region. The idea of holding it is related to the inclusion of the Belarusian language in the UNESCO Atlas of the World's Endangered Languages in 2009.
The beginning of the academic year will also be marked by a bright celebration in Vitebsk. On September 7, two concerts will be held at the Summer Amphitheater of the city specifically for schoolchildren, featuring youth bands, artists from the regional center, as well as creative teams of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. It is expected that 11,000 children and teenagers will attend these events, as reported by the Vitebsk Culture Center. -0-
