Scientists from 6 countries will discuss research results on advanced technologies in Vitebsk
May 25, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. The international symposium "Advanced Materials and Technologies" will open on May 26 in Vitebsk with the participation of scientists from Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Latvia, and Moldova, as reported to BELTA correspondent by Yuri Tsarenko, Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
A total of about 100 leading scientists and specialists will gather at the traditional scientific forum in the regional center. During the symposium, the results of theoretical and experimental studies on the influence of high-energy impacts on the strength and plasticity of materials, which have significantly increased in global interest in recent years, will be presented, noted Yuri Tsarenko. According to him, solving problems underlying the creation of new technological processes is largely related to understanding the physical mechanisms of deformation, synthesis, and heat treatment of materials. The symposium plans to consider the most relevant areas of materials science and condensed matter physics.
The majority of the reports will be devoted to research of both scientific and practical significance, emphasized Yuri Tsarenko. For example, research on nanostructured and submicrocrystalline metals obtained by intense plastic deformation, which exhibit low-temperature anomalies of grain boundary diffusion, is of considerable interest. The Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will present one of its new developments – a technology for repairing parts using gas-dynamic spraying, which is already used at aviation repair enterprises in Belarus. This technology allows for applying coatings of metals, alloys, powder mixtures, including those with non-metals, polymers, to products made of metals and dielectrics, including ceramics and glass. The coating is applied by a high-speed flow of "cold" powder particles accelerated by a supersonic gas jet at a temperature significantly lower than the melting point of the particle material. This results in the absence of through pores in the coatings and a minimal content of oxides, which ensures high coating quality, as well as low energy consumption compared to thermal spraying methods.
The organizers of the symposium, which will conclude on May 29, are the Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Vitebsk State Technological University, with the support of the Interstate Coordination Council for Physics of Strength and Plasticity of Materials of the CIS countries. -0-
