Scientists will present developments in materials science at an international forum in Vitebsk

Representatives of leading scientific schools from 13 countries will gather in Vitebsk for the 60th International Scientific Conference "Actual Problems of Strength," which will be held from May 15 to 18 at the Vitebsk State Technological University.

According to Irina Nikiforova, the conference secretary and head of the marketing and international relations department at the Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, over 100 scientists and specialists from research centers, scientific, and educational institutions have confirmed their participation in the forum.

During the symposium, the results of theoretical and experimental research in the field of physics and mechanics of strength will be discussed, which allow for predicting material properties, creating nanomaterials with improved structure, and developing new surface coatings with high functional properties.

The forum will serve as a platform for presenting developments in materials science and innovative technologies for obtaining and processing materials.

Traditionally, the organizing committee pays great attention to working with young scientists, who will have the opportunity to present the results of their research alongside recognized authorities in the scientific world.

To popularize scientific knowledge and attract youth to research activities, an off-site session is planned in Polotsk at the Polotsk State Economic College.

The conference was conceived in 1980 as a platform for communication and the unification of knowledge and efforts of scientists in the field of physics and mechanics of strength.

Today, it is one of the most prestigious continuously operating scientific forums in the post-Soviet space, attracting interest from representatives of research centers in Western European and Asian countries, including England, Germany, the Czech Republic, South Korea, and Vietnam.

This time, for the first time, representatives from Portugal and Egypt will be among the conference participants.

“In these challenging times, it is especially important to maintain creative and friendly contacts that have been developing over many decades,” noted Vladimir Betekhtin (Saint Petersburg), Chairman of the Intergovernmental Coordination Council for Physics of Strength and Plasticity of Materials (MKC), Professor, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, in his address to the symposium participants.

Over 38 years, the conference has been held in more than 30 cities across 6 countries and republics of the former Soviet Union. The jubilee forum (like the 50th in 2010) has been decided to be held in Vitebsk, based at the Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Vitebsk State Technological University, taking into account the significant contribution of scientists from these organizations to the development of the symposium. In addition to them, the conference organizers include the MKC, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Physics of Condensed Matter, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, and the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research.
