The share of petrochemicals in industrial production of the Vitebsk region will decrease to 33.5% by 2015
The share of the petrochemical industry in the total industrial output of the Vitebsk region continues to decrease and should reach 33.5% by 2015. This task was set at the session of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
In 2008, the share of the petrochemical industry was 54.5%, while electricity generation accounted for 11%. Thus, almost two-thirds of the region's industrial production depended on imported raw materials, making the region's economy vulnerable to external factors. Since 2009, thanks to measures to implement the region's innovation development program, manufacturing industries, machine building, and processing enterprises have gained momentum. According to preliminary data for 2012, the share of the petrochemical industry was 49.7%, and the share of the food industry increased to 13.6%. By 2015, the share of petrochemicals is projected to be 33.5%, and energy enterprises - 10%, taking into account sources based on local fuels.
Thus, industrial diversification aligns with technocratic principles: radio electronics and programming are developing. To achieve high added value, it is necessary to continue modernizing industry, the governor emphasized. For the region's enterprises next year, the task is to increase the physical volume index by 120% compared to the current year, profitability should be 12%, material intensity should decrease by 5%, and revenue per employee should be at least $70 thousand.
