This was announced today to journalists by the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets, BELTA correspondent reports. For January-March of the current year, the gross regional product in the region amounted to about Br3.2 trillion, with services accounting for about 50%, while at the end of 2008 this figure was only 26%. In the near future, the task is to increase the share of services to 70%, the head of the region noted. Such positive dynamics became possible primarily thanks to the enormous work carried out in the Vitebsk region to develop infrastructure, improve cities and small settlements. As an example, he cited Vitebsk, where the forecast for paid services was fulfilled by 200% in the first quarter of the year. The city is actively developing its retail network, with new catering and leisure facilities appearing. Suffice it to say that the renovated Victory Square, the adjacent Park of Winners, and many other unique corners of the regional center, which enhance the city's attractiveness and its tourist potential, have already become favorite places for residents and guests of the city. The city is forming a modern image that attracts, fascinates, and arouses interest, including among foreign guests, the head of the region is confident. An integral element of creating a new image of the regional center and the entire Dvina region is the work on improvement with the active participation of all who wish. Today, the region is undergoing a thorough cleanup, including on subbotniks, and by the end of May, ideal order must be established. The "Northern Capital" program, designed for 2011-2015, is being implemented in Vitebsk, which provides for the implementation of a number of projects to develop the city's infrastructure and tourist potential.
