The Udelovo village council of the Glubokoye district declared its territory a sobriety zone
August 26, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Udelovsky rural council of the Gluboksky district has been declared a sobriety zone, the head of the ideological work department of the Gluboksky district executive committee, Mikhail Cherepkovsky, told a BELTA correspondent.
The initiative to create a non-alcoholic territory belongs to the priest of the Church of St. Anne in Mosar, Father Juozas Bulka, who is famous in these parts as a fighter against drunkenness. Conducting constant propaganda of a healthy lifestyle among his parishioners, the priest managed to convince local residents of the need to ban the sale of alcohol in all retail outlets of the rural council. According to Mikhail Cherepkovsky, the initiative was supported at meetings in work collectives. As an experiment, the sale of alcoholic beverages has been suspended in stores until December 31, 2009, and remaining alcohol stocks are being confiscated.
Juozas Bulka has been working towards the creation of a sobriety zone for several decades. First, a unique anti-alcohol museum was organized at the church, then a sobriety alley appeared. In addition, numerous tourists visiting the most beautiful corner of Glubochina, as the church and the territory around it are rightfully considered, are prohibited from consuming any alcoholic beverages in this place.
The Gluboksky district is not the only one in the Vitebsk region where informal methods are used in the fight against drunkenness. In the Postavsky district, since this year, rural councils have imposed a veto on the sale of alcohol to persons registered with the police. -0-
