The threat of fish kill due to abnormal heat has arisen on four lakes in the Vitebsk region
August 17, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The threat of fish kill due to abnormal heat has arisen on four lakes in the Vitebsk region, the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection informed a BELTA correspondent.
During hydrochemical studies, it was found that the dissolved oxygen content in the water is below the permissible values (less than 6 mg/l) in 4 reservoirs: Chornoye (Gorodok district), Stradnoye (Verkhnedvinsk district), Tyatno (Verkhnedvinsk district), Dolgoye (Shumilino district). To prevent fish kills, regional inspectorates have intensified control over the reservoirs. Information work has been organized among local residents, lessees of fishing grounds, and work collectives, and local authorities have been instructed on the need to take measures to prevent fish kill phenomena.
The Vitebsk Regional Committee has organized the survey of 56 reservoirs with a total area of 2.7 thousand hectares, prone to fish kills. As specialists noted, under normal climatic conditions in summer, there is enough oxygen in the lakes of the Vitebsk region for aquatic inhabitants, so summer fish kills are not typical for the northern region of the country. The last time a similar threat of fish death was observed was 8 years ago. -0-
