Draft dodger from Liozno faces criminal charges due to a fake certificate
The Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office has today initiated a criminal case against a draft dodger from Liozno, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Viktor Kolbun, senior prosecutor of the department for supervision of the enforcement of legislation in the troops of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
A criminal case under Part 2 of Article 435 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (evasion of conscription for military service by means of document forgery) has been initiated against a citizen born in 1988, who provided the Liozno military commissariat with a knowingly false certificate stating that he was studying at a university in Moscow.
The forgery was detected during an inspection of the legality of conscription for active military service, which was carried out by prosecutors in all districts of the region in November-December 2014.
"The stamp on the document aroused my suspicion," Viktor Kolbun said. "Based on this, an inquiry was made to the educational institution, and it turned out that the young man was not studying there. In general, a sufficient amount of data has been collected that indicates the elements of a crime. The draft dodger himself is currently in Russia, although he was notified of the need to appear at the prosecutor's office."
Speaking about the results of the inspection, the interlocutor emphasized that this is the only case for which the prosecutor's office has initiated a criminal case, and it has already been transferred to the Investigative Committee Department for the Vitebsk Region.
