Уникальную археологическую находку, связанную с Евфросинией Полоцкой, презентовали в Полоцке

The presentation of a unique archaeological find from the 12th century began today at the Polotsk Art Gallery. This is a pendant charter seal of Euphrosyne of Polotsk, discovered during the research of the foundations of the Transfiguration Church of the Spaso-Yefrosinievsky Monastery.

The excavations were carried out by a group of Russian and Belarusian scientists led by Denis Duka, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Vice-Rector of Polotsk State University. He explained that the fact of finding the seal, which authentically belonged to the venerable saint, confirms the exceptional significance of Euphrosyne of Polotsk's personality. She not only possessed undeniable authority in spiritual and educational activities but also acted as a prominent political figure: she had the right to affix her seal to business documents on par with the prince and the bishop, and she managed the city in the absence of the prince.

It is symbolic that scientists received this peculiar message from the 12th century on the eve of several significant dates. This week, the oldest city in our country celebrates its 1153rd anniversary. Tomorrow, numerous events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the great Belarusian saint will be held in Polotsk. This year marks the 105th anniversary of the transfer of Euphrosyne of Polotsk's relics to her native monastery, and 15 years ago, the people of Polotsk unveiled a monument to their legendary countrywoman.

The presentation of the find at the Art Gallery will last only four days. After that, the seal will be returned to the researchers for the necessary scientific processing, and then it will be transferred for permanent storage to the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve.
