Unique archival documents will be transferred by the KGB Directorate to the State Archive of the Vitebsk Region
May 27, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Unique originals and copies of archival documents related to famous public figures of the Dvina region of the late 19th - early 20th centuries will be transferred by the regional KGB department for storage to the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the head of the archival department of the KGB Directorate, Igor Sedykh.
The transfer of materials will take place on May 28 at the grand opening of an exhibition at the State Archives dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Vitebsk Scientific Archival Commission. A total of about 10 historical documents, discovered during the scientific development of archival collections, will be transferred. These are personal documents, copies of closed criminal cases, and other materials about the life and activities of famous Vitebsk residents. They will be of interest to a wide range of researchers of Belarusian history, emphasized Igor Sedykh. For example, Nikolai Bogorodsky was the deputy director of the Vitebsk Cultural and Historical Museum, a local historian, and one of the founders of the Vitebsk Scientific Archival Commission, Boris Bjalynicki-Birula was a member of the All-Russian Church Council, and the famous doctor Fyodor Grigorovich was a member of the church guardianship at the Vitebsk Cathedral. In those days, these people were known for their principled civic position, which often did not coincide with the trends of revolutionary transformations.
Employees of the archival department of the KGB Directorate for the Vitebsk Region constantly carry out work to search for materials of scientific and historical value, noted Igor Sedykh. Subsequently, archival documents may become the subject of scientific research by historians, biographers, local historians, and also supplement the expositions of archival and museum institutions. Thus, thanks to such archival developments, the collection of the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region was replenished with materials from a closed criminal case against a prominent public and political figure, one of the founders of the Vitebsk Scientific Archival Commission, Vladimir Stukalich. -0-
