Unique photo facts of the history and culture of Belarus are presented at an exhibition in Vitebsk
On September 6, the Vitebsk Art Museum opened an exhibition of works by the renowned Belarusian photographer Yuri Ivanov. The project is titled "Between White and Black. Photo Retrospective of Belarusian History of the Late 20th - Early 21st Centuries."
The exhibition features 230 photographs, organized into 14 thematic sections. In many of them, Yuri Ivanov captured significant historical events and prominent figures from Belarus's history and culture. The photographs span nearly half a century, from the 1960s to the present day.
Currently, Yuri Ivanov heads the photo illustrations department of the newspaper "Kultura." Previously, he collaborated with several well-known media outlets, including the Novosti Press Agency (Moscow), the BELTA news agency, the Belarus publishing house, and RIA Novosti.
In 1990, he participated in the competitive project "One Day in the Life of the USSR," organized by TIME-LIFE magazine (USA). His photograph "Lettučka," created for this project, was included in the list of the world's best photographs from the 1980-1990 period. In 1987, following an international competition, Ivanov was recognized among the top 100 photographers worldwide.
Yuri Ivanov's photo exhibition has generated significant interest among Vitebsk's creative intelligentsia. The opening reception was attended by many prominent writers and artists. Naturally, some renowned photographers, as well as photojournalists and amateur photographers from the city, considered it their duty to visit the exhibition of the master.
