Unique photographs by Repin will be presented at the "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk"

Unique photographs by I. Repin will be available for viewing by guests and participants of the XXII International Arts Festival "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk," as reported to BELTA correspondent by Alexei Sukhorukov, director of the I.E. Repin Museum-Estate "Zdravnevo."

The exhibition presentation will coincide with the forum's opening and will take place at the artist's estate. The exposition features 28 unique black-and-white photographs taken from original negatives stored in the Central State Archive of Cinema, Photo, and Sound Documents of St. Petersburg. The pictures date from the period 1904-1914. Most of them were taken by the "father of Russian photojournalism," Karl Bulla, at "Penaty." They depict Ilya Repin working in his studio, in the company of no less renowned guests, including M. Gorky, V. Stasov, F. Chaliapin, K. Chukovsky, and other personalities. In some photographs, the master is captured with his family, surrounded by his paintings, or during his leisure time.

The collection was a gift from Alexei Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom OJSC Management Committee, who visited the museum-estate on May 19, the final day of the concluding round of the fifth corporate festival "Fakel" for amateur creative groups and performers from Gazprom OJSC's subsidiaries and organizations. "These photographs will contribute to the museum's prosperity and attract more people interested in the work of the famous artist," Alexei Miller expressed his firm conviction at the time.
