Unique materials about Vitebsk teachers, Heroes of the Soviet Union, are presented in the exhibition "War and Victory".

May 7, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Unique materials about the labor and military feat of 24 educators from the Vitebsk region, who were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, are presented at the exhibition "War and Victory", prepared by specialists of the regional institute for the development of education for the 65th anniversary of Victory. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the author of the exhibition, Tamara Marchik, a methodologist at the institute. The exhibition became a kind of creative summary of the research work of the institute's employees to establish and study the lives of teachers – natives of Vitebsk region, who were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War. It includes over 26 thousand documents and materials about 24 educators who worked in educational institutions of the region in different years, including two of them who are full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory. These are personal belongings donated by relatives of the heroes, materials related to their pedagogical activities, memoirs of colleagues, students, relatives and friends. "Our main task was not only to restore the memory of the hero-teachers, but also to present them as specialists in their field, who dedicated many post-war years to the difficult work of a teacher," noted Tamara Marchik. During the research and preparation of the exhibition, educational institutions, with which the labor biography of the heroes was connected, provided great assistance to the institute's staff. Moreover, some schools actively joined the work to perpetuate the memory of their former specialists. For example, the teaching staff of Secondary School No. 21 in Vitebsk created a memorial corner in honor of their colleague, Hero of the Soviet Union Vasily Demidov. A memorial plaque has been installed on the house where the renowned teacher lived. The issue of possibly naming one of the streets in Vitebsk after the hero is also currently being worked on. The "War and Victory" exhibition will be permanent and will be housed in the "Hall of Fame" of the Museum of the History of Education of the Vitebsk Region, the opening of which is planned for the beginning of the new academic year. -0-
