A unique mammology center has opened in Vitebsk
A specialized mammology unit has been established at the Vitebsk Regional Diagnostic Center. The center's chief physician, Vladimir Orekhva, notes that a screening program is currently being implemented here. Two city polyclinics are involved in this program. Mammologists-oncologists monitor practically all women who are considered at risk due to age or health status. This is a problematic category of patients who are in the state of being "not yet sick, but no longer healthy" and fall outside the usual chain of medical care.
Over 3,000 examinations have already been conducted at the center, and focal neoplasms have been detected in more than 100 patients. All of them have been referred to the oncology dispensary.
The unified computer network and a single database connecting Vitebsk medical institutions allow for prompt data exchange and facilitate diagnostic and subsequent treatment decisions. Vitebsk plans to acquire another high-tech mammograph soon, and the staff of oncologists and radiologists will be tripled.
The new structural unit of the VRDC will enable mass screening of the female population of the region and early detection of dangerous pathologies. The most important aspect, emphasizes the head of the healthcare department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Yuri Derkach, is that thanks to the creation of this unique center, women will be spared the hassle of visiting "intermediate" facilities and will be directed immediately to the appropriate specialists.
