Hurricane Nicholas caused the death of piglets on a private farm in Tolochin
February 9, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The cause of the death of piglets on a private farm in Tolochin was hurricane "Nicholas," the press secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Marina Fando told a BELTA correspondent.
As previously reported, a farm with 160 piglets burned down in Tolochin last night. According to specialists, the fire started from the roof. It is likely that strong gusts of wind damaged the wiring, causing a short circuit, and sparks fell on the roof. The hurricane instantly spread the flames throughout the building, making it impossible to save the animals. At the same time, the Tolochin district was not among the most affected by the elements in the region.
In the Rossony district last night, the roof of a one-story building of the district inspectorate for seed production, quarantine, and plant protection collapsed over an area of 85 sq.m. The damage was discovered by the institution's employees who came to work in the morning. There were no casualties, the damage from the elements is being assessed, and repair work is underway.
According to operational data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, energy workers are currently continuing to restore power supply to settlements in six districts of the region. Work is underway in 19 settlements, at 37 transformer substations, and on 8 power lines. -0-
