The crime rate in the Vitebsk region decreased by 19.1% in the first half of the year

The crime rate in the Vitebsk region in the first half of this year decreased by 19.1% compared to the same period last year, Olga Verzhbovich, prosecutor of the organizational and control department of the Vitebsk region prosecutor's office, told a BELTA correspondent.

A total of 7.2 thousand crimes were recorded in the region in January-June. Crime growth occurred in Braslavsky (by 39.4%), Miorsky (by 13.1%), and Shumilinsky (by 12.6%) districts. The number of victims as a result of criminal acts decreased by 21.8% and amounted to 5.1 thousand people, including 74 deaths.

The structure of crime is dominated by theft, their share is 48.2% of all registered crimes, robbery (2.8%), evasion of parents from child support (6.6%), driving a vehicle by a person in a state of intoxication (2.7%).

Law enforcement agencies of the Vitebsk region registered 785 grave and especially grave crimes. At the same time, the number of grave crimes committed in the region as a whole increased by 5.2% to 683 cases. At the same time, the number of murders and attempted murders committed decreased by 18.8%, and intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm - by 31.7%. The number of robberies decreased from 45 to 32. In January-June, there were also fewer rapes and violent sexual acts, robberies, thefts, and crimes committed by previously convicted persons. -0-
