The level of professional training must meet the requirements of employers
Employers today need not theorists, but specialists with practical skills and abilities. This was discussed at the round table meeting "Professions of Lawyer, Economist and Logistician in the Labor Market: Quality of Training, Demand and Prospects," which took place at the Vitebsk branch of the International University "MITSO". Representatives of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Committee for Labor and Employment of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Vitebsk branch of RUE "BELTAMOZHSERVICE" and LLC "Evroopt" were invited to participate in the dialogue.
The participants of the round table discussed the level of training of young specialists for work, the qualities, skills and abilities that they need to consolidate to build a successful career. The attendees unanimously recognized the high level of training of graduates of the Vitebsk branch of the International University "MITSO", noting at the same time the general shortcomings of university graduates in employment.
Mikhail Yanchilin, First Deputy Director of the Eurotorg LLC branch, stated that graduates lack the patience to gradually build their professional growth. In particular, he said: "At interviews, nine out of ten graduates with diplomas in economics, logistics, or law immediately want a senior position with a high salary, not understanding that career growth is a specific path."
Igor Romashko, Head of the Ideological Work and Personnel Support Department of the Internal Affairs Directorate, emphasized to the attendees that there is a strict selection of personnel in law enforcement agencies today and, unfortunately, graduates wishing to work in these bodies lack psychological qualities and discipline.
Vyacheslav Babin, Deputy Director of RUP Beltamozhservice, noted that enterprises need strategists – people with a mindset focused on the state's economy as a whole, rather than a bureaucratic approach based on knowledge of legislative acts. There are also few such young specialists.
The importance of staying up-to-date in the process of training specialists was also emphasized by Dmitry Sorogovets, Head of the Marketing and Transport Logistics Department of the Vitebsk branch of Belarusian Railway. Despite the high demand for specialists in the field of logistics, the requirements for representatives of this profession today are enormous.
The participants of the discussion talked a lot about the fact that education should be practice-oriented, so that graduates do not have to be taught the basics of professional activity at their workplace. "The current education system must monitor the labor market situation: which graduates are currently needed, what knowledge and skills they should possess," emphasized Elena Shavel, chief specialist of the career guidance and vocational training department of the Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection, in her speech.
Speaking about the demand for lawyers, economists, and logisticians in the labor market, the participants of the meeting noted that these professions are not losing their popularity. "Today, specialists with diplomas in
adjacent fields," said Alexander Dedinkin, Director of the Vitebsk Branch of the International University "MITSO." "For example, a lawyer and an economist, a logician and a lawyer. Undoubtedly, graduates with two diplomas will find their place in the labor market faster. And we aim to train a specialist who can find employment and be successful in the conditions of fierce labor force competition."During the round table, participants gave recommendations regarding the qualities and skills that students need to develop for a successful career. In conclusion, the guests expressed their interest in further cooperation and proposed options for joint work.
