The water level on the rivers of the Vitebsk region is reaching maximum values

April 25, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Water levels in the rivers of the Vitebsk region are reaching their maximum values, the Vitebsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring informed a BELTA correspondent. The water rise in the tributaries of the Western Dvina has reached maximum values, which this spring are 1-1.5 m below the average long-term values. The only region in the area where there is currently a threat of flooding due to the spring flood is the Verkhnedvinsk district. Due to the sharp warming that began on April 14-15, and heavy rainfall over the past weekend, active snowmelt began in the upper reaches of the Western Dvina, which led to an intensive rise in water levels in this river from Surazh to Verkhnedvinsk. Currently, in the Verkhnedvinsk district, it is 830 cm, closely approaching a dangerously high level from which flooding begins. At the same time, favorable weather conditions are expected in the northernmost region of Belarus in the coming days, which should positively affect the current situation and remove the threat of flooding in Verkhnedvinsk, the regional hydrometeorological center added, noting that overall, the spring flood this year in the Vitebsk region has passed calmly. -0-
