A native of Vitebsk faces up to execution for murder with particular cruelty
The murder case with particular cruelty has been transferred to the regional court, and the accused faces punishment up to the exceptional measure, reported Denis Alekseenko, prosecutor of the department for supervision of legislation enforcement of the Investigative Committee's department for the region.
The murder was committed in December 2014. A native of Vitebsk, after being released from a colony where he had spent 12 years for murder, continued to lead an anti-social lifestyle.
"When he drank, he became aggressive and dangerous, especially since he had previously been involved in boxing. Before the murder, back in February 2014, while heavily intoxicated, he hit his grandmother at a mini-market. However, at that time, the initiation of a criminal case for hooliganism was refused. Ten months later, he invited a man he met on the street to his apartment, where they drank together. The accused insists that his drinking companion started insulting him, and in retaliation, he beat him up, left him lying in a pool of blood in the corridor, and went to sleep. In the morning, his cohabitant woke him up, asking why there was a corpse in the house. He did not react, and when the frightened woman left, he also left the apartment, locking it," explained Denis Alekseenko.
The victim received at least 16 blows to the head and torso. The man, who was significantly weaker than the accused, had no uninjured spots and died from complex trauma.
The body was discovered three days later by the apartment owner's mother, who was contacted by the cohabitant. The pensioner did not believe her at first but later came to check.
The mother reported to law enforcement agencies, and her son was detained. A criminal case was initiated for causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death by negligence.
Subsequently, the man was charged under paragraph 6, 16 of Part 2 of Article 139 of the Criminal Code - "Murder committed with particular cruelty by a person who has previously committed murder," the sanctions of which provide, among other things, for the supreme measure of punishment.
"Shortly before the murder, the man came under preventive supervision. It was established that the police's work with this citizen was insufficient. A number of officials of the Pervomaisky District Department of Internal Affairs have been brought to justice," added Denis Alekseenko.
