Ilya Repin Estate near Vitebsk will turn into a patchwork palette for one day
The first open patchwork competition-festival "Repinskaya Palitra" will be held at the Ilya Repin Museum-Estate.
July 26, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. The first open patchwork competition-festival "Repinskaya Palitra" will be held at the Ilya Repin Museum-Estate in Zdravnevo near Vitebsk. Belarusian and Russian patchwork craftswomen have already submitted over 30 works to the competition, Nina Yarmukh, the initiator of the project and head of the Polotsk folk patchwork club "Roshva," told a BELTA correspondent.
An exhibition of the competition works is on display at the Ilya Repin Museum-Estate and precedes the festival, which will take place on August 5. On this day, guests of the estate will be treated to master classes by craftswomen, concert and theater projects, and meetings with artists. The festival will conclude with the awarding of winners in four nominations: preservation of patchwork traditions, originality of execution, best composition, and audience choice.
As Nina Yarmukh noted, patchwork festivals are held in many European cities and attract not only masters but also tourists. One of the popular Russian festivals, "Pestrya polyana" (Colorful Meadow), takes place at the Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate in Yasnaya Polyana. A similar project is being prepared for implementation by the museum-estate of Alexander Pushkin's great-grandfather, Abram Gannibal, "Suida," near St. Petersburg.
The organizers of "Repinskaya Palitra" are the Department of Culture of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Regional Museum of Local Lore, the Regional Methodological Center for Folk Art and Crafts, and the Center for Crafts and National Cultures of Polotsk. The organizers hope that their festival will help preserve and popularize national decorative and applied arts, and attract tourists' attention to Vitebsk and the Zdravnevo Museum-Estate.
