A stable downward trend in juvenile delinquency is observed in the Vitebsk region

July 21, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A steady downward trend in juvenile delinquency has been observed in the Vitebsk region in recent years. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Irina Yanukovich, Senior Assistant Prosecutor of the Vitebsk Region for Supervision of the Enforcement of Legislation on Minors and Youth.

According to her, this was largely facilitated by the measures taken by the state to ensure the leisure and employment of young people, increase their motivation for a healthy lifestyle, as well as significant attention to this issue from local authorities. Thus, in the first half of the year, the number of crimes committed by minors and with their complicity in the region decreased by 23.7% to 219 cases compared to the same period last year. At the same time, their share in the total crime volume was 4.4% versus 4.7% in January-June 2010. The number of minors involved in criminal activities decreased by 13.3% (from 210 to 182 cases).

In the past period, the number of crimes committed by young people while intoxicated (by 43.2%), in groups (by 49.2%), and by minors with previous convictions (by 61.6%) has significantly decreased. An improvement in the crime situation is also noted in other areas: fewer criminal acts were recorded among unemployed and non-student minors, as well as those committed by minors in public places.

Despite the overall decrease in juvenile delinquency in the region, a significant increase in crimes among minors was recorded in the first half of the year in the Oktyabrsky district of Vitebsk, Verkhnedvinsky, Miorsky, and Chashniksky districts. "Representatives of the interested departments of Gluboksky, Gorodotsky, Dokshitsky, Rossonsky, Braslavsky, and Beshenkovichsky districts should also intensify their efforts in solving this problem," added Irina Yanukovich.-0-
