The protection zone project for the mass grave in Ushachi has been approved
The Ministry of Culture of Belarus has approved the project for the protection zones of the historical and cultural value "Brotherly burial, 1941-1944, Sovetskaya Street in the urban-type settlement of Ushachi, Vitebsk Region". This is reported by BELTA with reference to Resolution No. 94 of December 23, 2013, published on the National Legal Internet Portal of Belarus.
The brotherly burial (1941-1944) on Sovetskaya Street in the urban-type settlement of Ushachi is a historical and cultural value of regional significance. The project consists in defining the boundaries of the protection zones and establishing the regimes for their maintenance and use. The project has established a protection zone and a landscape protection zone.
The protection zone (0.06 ha) covers the territory directly adjacent to the historical and cultural value. It is established based on the need for physical and aesthetic preservation of the heritage object, and the creation of conditions for its favorable visual perception. Construction is prohibited here, but repair and restoration work, sanitary felling of green spaces, and landscaping of the territory are permitted.
The landscape protection zone (0.8 ha) is established on the territory of the сквер (small park) to preserve the natural environment near the historical site and ensure a harmonious unity between the adjacent development and the cultural value.
New capital construction and landscape changes are prohibited in this territory. Landscaping and planting that do not distort the character of the territory, laying of necessary engineering communications, and sanitary felling of green spaces are permitted.
The project was developed by the scientific and design republican unitary enterprise "BelNIIPgradostroitelstva" by order of the Ushachi District Executive Committee. It is based on historical archival, bibliographic, and field research, as well as an analysis of the urban planning situation and landscape.
