Import regulations from abroad have been tightened

The State Customs Committee of Belarus has tightened the import regulations for certain goods for personal use from abroad.

As noted in the press release of the SCC, an analysis of the normative terms of use for various categories of goods showed that the service life of household appliances and plumbing equipment is generally at least five years, and tires - at least two years.

In light of the foregoing, from March 10, 2015, approaches to classifying goods moved by individuals as goods for personal use are changing, in terms of establishing the possibility of importing the following categories of goods as goods for personal use:

- one unit of the following categories of goods within three calendar years: gas (or electric) stoves, hob units, household range hoods, food processors, microwave ovens, ovens, bathtubs, shower cabins, sinks, washbasins, bidets, toilets, flush cisterns, household refrigerator-freezers, household refrigerators, household freezers, household dishwashers, household washing machines, household coffee machines, household sewing machines, household water heaters, color liquid crystal display computer monitors, laptops (netbooks), tablet PCs, copying and duplicating equipment, television reception apparatus, air conditioners, lawn mowers (trimmers), vacuum cleaners, household welding machines, household electric generators, household car washing equipment, baby carriages (of each type depending on the age of the child), outboard motors, civilian smooth-bore or rifled weapons and their parts;

- up to 4 units (up to 2 or 3 units (if a sidecar is present) for motorcycles, mopeds, scooters) of summer pneumatic tires (or wheels with summer tires, including used ones) or up to 4 units (up to 2 or 3 units (if a sidecar is present) of winter pneumatic tires (or wheels with winter tires, including used ones) for each personal use vehicle owned by an individual transporting such goods, within two calendar years, provided that the right of ownership of the personal use vehicle is documented to the customs officer, up to 4 rims for personal use vehicles," the State Customs Committee said in a statement.

The import quotas will not apply to goods imported with payment of a consolidated customs duty.

The calculation of the specified periods (three calendar years and two calendar years) is made from March 31, 2014.
