In the Western Dvina basin within the Vitebsk region, a rise in water level is observed
April 5, Vitebsk / Sergei Kochetov - BELTA /. The established warming in the Vitebsk region has led to an intensification of the average daily water level rise in the Western Dvina basin, the regional center for hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring informed a BELTA correspondent.
Over the past day, the water level rise on tributaries ranged from 5 cm to 23 cm, the Western Dvina rose by 26-64 cm in the section from Surazh to Polotsk, with the lowest water level rise (12 cm) observed in the upper reaches of the river near Surazh, as well as in the lower reaches near Verkhnedvinsk (13 cm). In general, spring processes are actively developing on the rivers of the Western Dvina basin. The ice cover has broken up on almost all rivers, except for the upper reaches of the Western Dvina. Sparse ice drift is observed on the river section from Vitebsk to Verkhnedvinsk. In the upper reaches of the river, there is water on the ice, and ice break-up is observed; ice destruction processes are less active here.
Overall, the spring flood on the rivers of the Western Dvina basin is developing calmly. Information on its development is collected from 21 stationary hydrological posts of "Vitebskoblgidromet". Warm weather and precipitation in the coming days will lead to an intensification of ice break-up processes in the upper reaches of the Western Dvina. The predicted cooling on the weekend will have a minor impact on their intensity. However, a significant snow cover still remains in the upper reaches of the Western Dvina, so the water level rise in the river will continue. In this regard, the probability of flooding in several areas in some districts of the region remains. -0-
