May 24, Minsk / Tatyana Chumakova - BELTA /. Maximum wholesale prices for beef and pork will be increased in Belarus. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the press service of the Ministry of Economy, commenting on the Ministry of Economy's Resolution No. 65 of April 27, 2011 "On prices for socially significant goods and repealing certain resolutions of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus". In accordance with the resolution, an increase in the maximum wholesale prices for carcass beef by 10% and for carcass pork by 8% is planned for May-June of the current year. The ministry's press service noted that the price increase is due to a significant rise in procurement prices for cattle and pigs and was proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Ministry of Economy Resolution No. 65 will come into force on May 25 of the current year. This resolution provides for the continuation of regulation and the establishment of maximum wholesale prices for basic socially significant food products, the Ministry of Economy's press service noted. This applies to rye bread, rye-wheat bread, loaves and rusks made from wheat flour, not enriched, weighing 300 g or more. These food products also include pasteurized cow's milk and kefir from cow's milk with a fat content of up to 3.5% inclusive, sour cream with a fat content of up to 25% inclusive, cottage cheese with a fat content of up to 9% inclusive without flavor additives and fillers, meat (beef and pork). The level of maximum wholesale prices for the listed types of bakery products, milk and dairy products has been maintained at the current level, the Ministry of Economy's press service emphasized. The regulation of retail prices for certain groups of dairy products is maintained by setting maximum retail markups (including wholesale markups). The press service clarified that this applies to cottage cheese produced using improved technologies in hermetic packaging and foil, curd grains and combined with other food products, milk and kefir packaged in PET bottles, sour cream in polystyrene cups, manufactured by thermoforming by dairy producers in Belarus. The formation of wholesale prices for the listed goods is carried out by the manufacturing companies, taking into account market conditions. For individual items of bakery and dairy products that have a limited range of consumers and are not of social importance, processing industry enterprises can set prices based on market conditions. These include scalded breads using additional imported ingredients, toast bread, bakery products with fillings and weighing less than 300 g, pizza bases, lavash and flatbreads, dietary and fortified bakery products, bakery products for athletes; high-fat dairy products, dairy products from milk other than cow's milk, as well as with various flavor additives and fillers, the Ministry of Economy's press service specified. As noted by the ministry's press service, Resolution No. 65 was developed as part of bringing the legislation into line with the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of Belarus No. 495 of April 14, 2011. -0-
