In Belarus, the collection of signatures in support of the nomination of presidential candidates begins
Signatures will be collected by 15 initiative groups registered with the Central Election Commission as contenders for the highest state post. To nominate oneself as a presidential candidate, it is necessary to secure the support of at least 100,000 adult citizens of Belarus who have the right to vote.
One can sign for several candidates, but for the same candidate only once. Members of initiative groups have the right to familiarize voters with the biographies of presidential contenders, but informational and other materials about them are not distributed.
Taking into account the epidemiological situation, signature collectors must adhere to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health regarding the prevention of coronavirus infection: wear masks, use hand sanitizers, etc.
As reported, the House of Representatives has scheduled the presidential elections for August 9. According to the calendar plan, the nomination of candidates will take place from June 20 to July 4, and registration from July 5 to July 14. After that, the pre-election campaign period will begin. Early voting in the elections will be held from August 4 to August 8. The Central Election Commission must announce the election results no later than August 19. A second round, if necessary, is scheduled to take place no later than two weeks later, i.e., August 23.
