Belarus plans to use semi-transparent ballot boxes and electronic voting

Belarus plans to use semi-transparent ballot boxes and electronic voting in the future. This was stated on the air of the CTV channel by the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission, Lidiya Yarmoshyna.

"We are gradually learning this or that standard. However, what we haven't managed to implement yet, others are already abandoning. For example, we are constantly under pressure regarding when transparent ballot boxes will be used everywhere. I can say right away - this is no longer fashionable, moreover, it contradicts international standards - transparent ballot boxes do not ensure the secrecy of voters' will. It is fashionable to use semi-transparent boxes, it is fashionable, at least partially, to use electronic voting. I think we will also gradually introduce this over time," said Lidiya Yarmoshyna.

Speaking about the rotation of parliament, the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission noted that at the request of the Head of State, about a third of the deputies should remain for a second term. But there is also a second wish: as a rule, the term of office for each individual deputy should not exceed two consecutive terms. "There is support and selection of future candidates, taking into account the observance of all proportions," she emphasized.

Lidiya Yarmoshyna also drew attention to the fact that this year is unusual for Belarus: the elections will be held on a public holiday - November 7. In her opinion, this is a very good idea: thus, "the state action will correspond to the state holiday."

Representatives of international organizations will observe the parliamentary elections. Belarus is ready for critical remarks. "There is international practice: they present us with a report, if it does not suit us, we present objections. Then we constructively discuss with all missions that give critical remarks. We receive everyone openly and friendly. We are accustomed to international observation. The main thing is that the parliament is elected and that it starts working on time," she concluded.

Elections to the Council of the Republic are scheduled for November 7, and to the House of Representatives - for November 17.
