September 16, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovets - BELTA /. For the first time in 20 years, a decrease in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) has been recorded in Belarus in 2009, Alexander Lukyanov, chief freelance dermatovenerologist of the Ministry of Health of Belarus, associate professor of the Department of Skin and Venereal Diseases of the Belarusian State Medical University, told a BELTA correspondent. He is taking part in an international scientific and practical conference on topical issues of diagnosis and treatment of socially significant dermatoses and sexually transmitted infections, which opened today in Vitebsk. According to Alexander Lukyanov, the decrease in STI incidence is the result of consistent work by all state services, including the dermatovenerological service. Today, Belarus is modernizing its laboratory base, and the diagnostic standards for STIs are aligned with global norms. PCR real-time diagnostic laboratories operate in all regional centers, making innovations in laboratory diagnostics accessible to citizens. Dermatovenerologists, together with gynecologists and urologists, are solving the most important tasks related to ensuring the demographic security of the country. Dermatology, a rather complex field of medical science and practice, is actively developing in Belarus. Today, the main task for dermatologists is to improve the quality of life of citizens suffering from dermatological pathologies, especially their severe manifestations. Belarusian specialists are implementing, in particular, the use of immunobiological drugs in the treatment of patients with severe skin diseases. This area will be actively developed in the coming years to provide effective assistance to patients. The two-day conference in Vitebsk is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Department of Dermatovenerology of the Vitebsk State Medical University. The event in the regional center brought together over 100 leading dermatovenerologists, urologists, and cosmetologists from scientific and medical institutions, and educational institutions from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, as well as from all regions of Belarus. One of the main topics of the conference is the diagnosis and treatment of dermatoses, the most common and socially significant skin diseases that cause lesions of the skin and joints and can lead to disability. In particular, specialists will discuss the problems of diagnosing severe forms of psoriasis and the application of new and innovative treatment methods. Separate sections will be devoted to topical issues of cosmetology, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. The discussion will cover issues of treating rare dermatological diseases based on case studies from scientists and doctors of medical institutions. The conference is organized by the Ministry of Health of Belarus and the Vitebsk State Medical University. -0-
