Sailing will be developed in Braslav

В Браславе будут развивать парусный спорт

The Braslav district is primarily associated with magnificent lakes and recreational areas, which are popular not only among Belarusians but also among foreign guests. In recent years, Braslav has also become a favorite destination for sailing enthusiasts. The natural landscape of the district is ideal for the development of yachting. The rest depends on effective advertising, enthusiasts, and investors.

Not long ago, Braslav was visited by the administration of the Polish city of Legionowo and the chairman of the Warsaw-based public association "Union of Braslav Residents" Vladislav Kravchuk. It should be noted that with the active participation of the "Union of Braslav Residents", which unites natives of Braslav living in Poland, projects in the fields of culture, education, sports, and tourism are regularly implemented in the Vitebsk region. During the visit, the prospects for further development of yachting in the Braslav region were discussed.

Vladislav Kravchuk reported that the issue of creating a structure in the Braslav district that unites athletes and yachting enthusiasts from Poland, Latvia, and Belarus is currently being worked out. The Polish side intends to continue providing assistance in acquiring yachts and training sailing instructors, of whom there are not many in Belarus yet.

According to Vladislav, the natural and tourist advantages of the Braslav district are not fully explored by foreigners living in neighboring countries. To rectify the situation, active work is needed to disseminate information about the advantages of Braslav as a tourist and sports center.

Lyudmila Ivanovna Shukel, Deputy Head of the Department of Education, Sports and Tourism of the Braslav District Executive Committee, told the Polish guests about the history of yachting development in the Braslav region. The first yacht clubs appeared on Lake Drivyaty back in the late 1920s. The development of this sport was hindered by World War II and the difficult post-war situation. In 2012, after a long break, the first yacht competitions of the "Micro" class were held in the Braslav region, which subsequently became traditional. In 2014, in addition to "Micro" class sailboats, yachts of the "Optimist" class took part in the regatta. It is noteworthy that in 2013, 8 teams participated in the competition, and a year later the number of teams increased to 54. This year, the regatta will be held on August 21-23 and promises to be no less ambitious.
