In Braslav, capital medics held a master class in the operating room

Braslav Central District Hospital hosted surgeons from neighboring regions. Representatives from Verkhnedvinsk, Miory, Postavy, Sharkovshchina, Glubokoye, Chashniki, and Tolochin districts, as well as Orsha, Polotsk, and Novopolotsk, arrived for the scientific and practical conference.

The event's theme, "Modern Technologies in Outpatient Surgery and Short-Stay Surgery," generated significant interest, being relevant to both the medical field and the general public. The ability to stay in a medical facility for only a day or two after surgery is a possibility offered to patients by modern surgical intervention technologies.

Opening the conference, the chief physician of Braslav Central District Hospital, Alexander Makarevich, emphasized that it was taking place during the 110th anniversary of the hospital's founding in the region.

— During this period, — he said, — medicine has advanced significantly, and the once rural clinic has adopted the latest technologies. — The team of Braslav medics has been collaborating productively with the departments of Vitebsk State Medical University for a long time, and now also with republican scientific and practical centers, which contributes to deepening knowledge, enhancing professionalism, and improving the practical skills of doctors.
— To treat blood vessels, a scalpel is no longer needed. A surgeon can successfully remove a damaged vein segment using a laser, — explained the essence of the new technique, Dmitry Turlyuk, leading researcher at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Cardiology," Candidate of Medical Sciences.

— Hospital-substituting technologies will increase the accessibility of medical care for rural residents, — added their capital city colleague, Vyacheslav Stanovenko, Head of the Department of Operative Surgery at Vitebsk Medical University, and Yuri Nebylytsyn, Associate Professor at the same institution.

Residents of Braslav and their neighbors will not need to wait for surgery appointments in large clinics in Vitebsk and Minsk. It can be performed in the district, and even attract patients from the Baltic countries. Braslav Central District Hospital has the capacity for this, as a inter-district medical and consultative center for surgical care to the population of Braslav, Verkhnedvinsk, Miory, Postavy, and Sharkovshchina districts has been operational there since May.

The participants of the conference were introduced to his first experience by the head of the center, Deputy Chief Physician for Medical Affairs, Candidate of Medical Sciences Evgeny Matusevich. In particular, he noted that in 5 months he performed 5 operations and consulted 37 patients in the assigned districts. In the near future, the center's capabilities will be expanded. It is planned to equip the Central District Hospital with a laparoscopic station and install an angiograph, which will allow for in-depth diagnosis and treatment of patients with various pathologies.

The inter-district center has already proven its effectiveness, which is why it was chosen as the venue for the conference. At its base, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Vyacheslav Yanushko, Candidates of Medical Sciences Dmitry Turlyuk, Yuri Nebylytsyn, Alexander Pitkevich, Vyacheslav Stanovenko, and Ivan Klimchuk acquainted conference participants with hospital-substituting technologies in surgery, minimally invasive interventions in the treatment of chronic venous diseases, principles of organizing day surgery departments and outpatient pediatric surgery, and the use of radial optical fibers in the treatment of varicose veins of the lower extremities.

New technologies require new skills from doctors. The country's current system of postgraduate training and retraining of personnel allows medical professionals to master modern technologies for treating vascular pathology.

In addition to purely medical issues, the forum discussed the effectiveness of day surgery in economic and psychological terms, and the actions of specialists in case of foreign bodies entering a child's body. Recently, there has been an increase in cases of children swallowing coins, which parents should pay special attention to for preventive purposes.

At the conference, there was an opportunity to see in action the application of laser in the treatment of varicose veins in the operating rooms of the Central District Hospital. One of the patients was scheduled for endovenous laser coagulation using the "Mediola-compact" laser device, which means burning the vein and removing damaged nodes without incisions. To begin, surgeons Sergey Kalinin and Yuri Nebylytsyn, together with the Central District Hospital doctor Alexander Shved, examined the patient using an ultrasound machine.

veins, marked the affected areas on the leg.

Local anesthesia was administered, then a light guide was used. Its glowing spot, its movement along the vein are clearly visible on the monitor. The affected area had to be cauterized within a minute, otherwise, the vessel could be damaged, leading to complications. Everything was done quickly, precisely, and carefully.

To the traditional question about her well-being, the patient replied:

— Thank you, everything is fine.

Now, the removal of varicose nodes on the lower leg. A puncture with a special hook. The diseased vessel was hooked and pulled out, the assistant ligated it, cut it, and returned it to its place. Soon, all affected areas were treated, and the surgery was completed. A bandage was applied to the leg, a special stocking was put on, and the young woman was advised to walk for five hours.

The next patient was next. A new team took their places at the table, and student surgeons followed every move of their operating colleagues, as well as the image on the monitor. The experience gained will allow them to reach the heights of professionalism in a field that requires a steady hand, clear actions, and the ability to quickly analyze the situation and make the only correct decision.
