A 15-meter high observation deck has appeared on Mount Mayak in the Braslav district
A new attraction has appeared on Mount Mayak, which is considered one of the best observation points in the Braslav region. Symbolically, the observation tower itself resembles a lighthouse. Only instead of the sea, there are blue lake expanses around. In good weather, the view of the surroundings extends for many kilometers.
The "Braslav Lakes" National Park has long dreamed of this project. The unusual tower was first talked about four years ago, and active work began in 2019.
— The height is, of course, dizzying – 15 meters, — smiles Mikhail Molotok, deputy director of the national park. — But thanks to the reliable steel railings, it is quite safe to admire the views. The object is located in a recreation area near Lakes Strusto and Snudy. We have been improving this place for several years: we have built new and reconstructed old tourist sites, opened a rental station, brought electricity... The new observation deck is the finishing touch.
And it is a serious bid to become one of the top tourist attractions in the region. At any time of the year, there are enough people willing to climb here to appreciate the view. It's no wonder, considering that the mountain's height is 174 meters above sea level, and 44.7 meters relative to the nearby lakes.
Next to the new platform, there is an old one, its height is much more modest – up to three meters. The object, familiar to the residents of Braslav and guests of the district, remains. Perhaps it will find a new use.
— Writing about Mayak is one thing, and reaching its height is completely different, — teases Vladimir Petkevich, a leading specialist at the national park's tourism department.
Mount Mayak is attractive in all seasons; the natural scenes seen here cannot be found anywhere else.
And together with him, we set off ten kilometers from the district center. Mayak captivates at first glance, although it is cool to stand here: it is quite windy on the mountain.
— This year, many Belarusians have discovered the Braslav region and domestic tourism with surprise, — notes Vladimir Valeryanovich. — Having visited us, they admitted: it is so good here, even without the notorious "all-inclusive." Significant advantages include unique nature and a homely atmosphere.
