The XXXIII concert season opens at St. Sophia Cathedral
The audience will hear a program that was performed a week ago in Notre Dame Cathedral.
Masterpieces of world organ music will be performed by the organist of St. Sophia Cathedral, Honorary Citizen of Polotsk, Ksenia Pogorelaya, whose name is known far beyond the borders of Belarus. On September 19, she successfully performed in the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral with works by J.S. Bach, L. Vierne, P. Fletcher, and A. Korotkina. She will open the XXXIII season with the same program, reports the concert department of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. Ksenia Pogorelaya has been the permanent organist of St. Sophia Cathedral since 1988. She gives about 300 concerts a year in the concert hall. Another 50 concerts are given by guests. Last season, musicians from Germany, Estonia, Belgium, Finland, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Switzerland, Russia, and Georgia performed in Polotsk. By the way, this year the cathedral celebrates two anniversaries: 30 years ago, the "king of musical instruments" was installed here, and 25 years ago, the I International Festival of Organ Music "Zvyany Safii" was held. Over these years, more than 120 concerts have been held within the project, with over 60 organists from 18 countries performing. The XX International Festival of Organ Music "Zvyany Safii" will take place in November.
