Journalists, editors, publishers, and printers celebrated Press Day on May 5. May 7 marked the professional holiday for radio, television, and communications workers. Vladimir Terentyev, Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, congratulated the representatives of the "fourth estate" of the Pridvinye region and everyone for whom the creation of a newspaper, television news, and radio programs is a matter of skill, on behalf of the head of the region and himself.
– In our time, journalism is a powerful force, and its importance in modern life is constantly growing, – he emphasized. – In this regard, special requirements are also imposed on people working in the media. Your civic stance, intellect, objectivity, and integrity determine the quality of the information product, which significantly influences public consciousness. Hence, the main task is not to search for sensations, but to get to the heart of phenomena that lie deep beneath the surface of everyday life, to help readers, viewers, and listeners understand what is happening in our complex world.
Your position should be to not hide shortcomings, but to identify them, analyze their causes, and show ways to solve them. This is exactly how the editorial offices of the newspapers "Vitebskiye Vesti", "Vitbichi", "Dzvinskaya Pravda" of Verkhnedvinsk district, "Chyrvony Pramen" of Chashniksky district, "Geroi Trudа" of Shumilinsky district, "Vesnik Glybochchyny", "Lepelsky Kray", "Polotsky Vesnik", "Postavsky Kray", "Nasha Talachynshchyna" and other regional publications of the region work.
Vladimir Terentyev also noted the need to consider the changes occurring in the information field in modern conditions. First of all, the shift of a significant part of the traditional audience of state media to the Internet, which requires ideologists and journalists to actively work on Internet platforms. And the past year has been a breakthrough for the northern region in this regard.
A great achievement is that the official website of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee won the International Specialized Exhibition "TIBO-2016" competition in the nomination "Regional, City and District Executive Committees". All state Internet resources of the region should follow its example, Vladimir Vladimirovich urged.
Touching upon the topic of "Vitebskiye Vesti", he drew attention to the fact that the regional newspaper has gone through a period of formation. A creative team has been assembled, the editor-in-chief has been appointed, and conditions for productive work have been created. The number one task is to increase creative potential and expand the readership.
– As a tribune for the leadership of the region, "Vitebskiye Vesti" should be present in every work collective, be on the desks of managers, deputies, elders, come to all organizations, institutions, and become a familiar newspaper in every home, – said Vladimir Terentyev.
