Crime increased in ten regions of the Vitebsk region in the first quarter
April 26, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Crime has increased in ten regions of the Vitebsk region in January-March, the head of the organizational and control department of the Vitebsk region prosecutor's office, Olga Lapkovskaya, told a BELTA correspondent.
According to the results of the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period in 2009, the number of registered offenses significantly increased in the Pervomaisky and Oktyabrsky districts of Vitebsk (an increase of 48.6% and 32.5%, respectively), Dubrovensky (an increase of 22.9%), Orshansky (by 20.8%), Verkhnedvinsky (by 17.5%), Shumilinsky (by 13.2%) districts.
In total, 4.3 thousand crimes were committed in the Vitebsk region in January-March, or 104.7% of last year's level, with over 3,000 people recognized as victims, including 39 citizens who died.
The structure of crime is still dominated by theft, which accounts for 47.2% of all registered crimes. At the same time, there is an increase in particularly serious and serious crimes, robberies, vehicle thefts, and hooliganism. The latter are most often committed in Vitebsk, Orsha, Polotsk, and Lepel district. Along with this, fewer murders and attempted murders, and intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm were committed in the first quarter of 2010 compared to January-March of last year.
The current situation indicates the need to strengthen law enforcement measures to counter the spread of crime, as well as to establish more effective joint work in this direction by all interested departments, stated Olga Lapkovskaya. -0-
