In Glubokoye, the Spoon Festival was celebrated for the first time
Participants of the unusual celebration learned how this household item appeared and received wooden souvenirs and straw crowns as gifts.
The new festival was conceived by Viktor Dudkevich, a methodologist at the Glubokoye House of Crafts and a wood carving master.
The enthusiast of reviving the ancient craft told adults and children what the first spoon looked like. In the Neolithic era, cutlery was made of clay, and our ancestors also used shells. When Prince Vladimir baptized Rus', he issued a decree ordering the use of spoons. However, at that time, they served more as ladles for hot food.
The festival participants answered questions about the materials used to create spoons and recalled proverbs and sayings about them.
– Wooden cutlery in the Renaissance era was cast from gold and silver, inlaid with precious stones. Now this is out of fashion, although people still give personalized silver spoons to children for Baptism and other holidays, - said Viktor Dudkevich.
The master from Glubokoye does not limit himself to creating exclusively utilitarian items. For example, Viktor Dudkevich presented the staff of a local hair salon with a wooden comb about one and a half meters high.
