In Gorodok, an 82-year-old moped driver died as a result of a collision with a bus
In Horadok, an 82-year-old local resident, driving a "Hors" moped, collided with a "PAZ" bus when exiting a parking lot onto the main road. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the UGAI of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
The moped driver was hospitalized with bodily injuries at the Horadok Central District Hospital, where he died.
Another fatal road accident involving an elderly moped driver occurred in Bereza. A 23-year-old resident of the village of Narutovichi, when exiting a secondary road onto the main road in an "Opel Vectra" car, failed to yield to an 80-year-old man moving on a "Simson" moped. The pensioner was taken to the hospital with injuries, where he later died.
The traffic police note that owners of mopeds and scooters underestimate the danger of this type of transport. "A scooter driver is a full participant in traffic who is obliged to know and comply with all the requirements of the Traffic Regulations. To operate a scooter, a category "AM" driver's license is required, and the moped must be registered with the traffic police. For safety reasons, it is forbidden to ride a scooter without a fastened helmet. It should be known that the speed of a scooter is significantly lower than other vehicles on the road, which means that in order not to interfere with other road users, you can ride a moped either on the shoulder or on the roadway, but no further than one meter from the right edge of the roadway. In this case, driving further than one meter from its right edge is allowed only for bypassing an obstacle and, in permitted cases, for turning left or making a U-turn," the State Automobile Inspectorate emphasized.
