A monument to a partisan will be restored in the Horadok district

The "Master of the Forest" sculptural composition in the Horadok district will be restored as part of the preparations for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, reported Svetlana Mozzharova, Head of the Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Horadok District Executive Committee.

"Over the decades, the monument has worn out, so it has been decided to restore it. We plan to start the work in May-June and unveil the renovated monument by July 3," said Svetlana Mozzharova. The proposal was supported by the regional branch of the Belarusian Peace Foundation. Money collection has already begun in the district, and members of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies also plan to contribute their personal funds and take the "Master of the Forest" under their patronage. The "Master of the Forest" monument was erected with money from partisans and opened in the summer of 1968 in the center of the partisan zone during the Great Patriotic War in the Shchel'bovo tract. The height of the sculpture is 5.5 m. The figure of a partisan holding a submachine gun reminds us who was the master of his native land during the harsh war years. Nearby, on a hill, there is a concrete slab with an inscription imitating the entrance to a dugout, and next to it is a dugout. The author of the composition is Anatoly Kovalev, a war participant and an artist native to the Horadok district. There are more than 140 military burials, monuments, and obelisks in the Horadok district.
