A Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was built in Kopyś
The religious facility was erected in less than a year on the site of the first church, founded on the banks of the Dnieper over 300 years ago. It was rebuilt once or twice a century. Local residents assure that even in the most difficult times for Christianity, the parish persisted, and its doors were always open. The previous church was built here in 1947. It is not surprising that over more than 70 years, the building began to decay.
– It looked more like a prayer house, – says Matushka Maria Vorobyova. – Reconstruction began in October 2017, and on August 19, a service was already held in the new church. During the construction, the parish temporarily moved to the chapel of St. Paraskeva Pyatnitsa. It was filled with the former furnishings of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, icons from the late 18th-19th centuries. And an iconostasis was written for the new church.
Today, with the blessing of Metropolitan Pavel of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, a new chapter in the history of the church has begun.
– I want to sincerely thank the builders, benefactors, everyone who created and adorned this beautiful church. I wish that all who come here touch the heavens, that they feel the grace of the Holy Spirit, – Metropolitan Pavel exhorted.
The construction of the church became possible thanks to donations from patrons. More than ten organizations acted as sponsors.
After the consecration, a festive Divine Liturgy took place. The event was attended by the Assistant to the President – Inspector for the Vitebsk Region Vitaly Vovk, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev, and Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Vladimir Penin.
We remind you that in Kopyś, the small homeland of Alexander Lukashenko, the first pilot project for the improvement of future villages has started. Local residents appealed to the President with a request for the construction of a church. And now the day has come when the parishioners' dreams have come true – from now on, the doors are always open for them here.
