A field meeting of the Presidium of the Council of the Republic on handling citizens' appeals was held in Lepel

An off-site meeting of the Presidium of the Council of the Republic was held in Lepel to discuss issues related to citizens' appeals. The day before, personal receptions of citizens by members of the Council of the Republic were held in all districts of the Vitebsk region, one of which was conducted by the Chairperson of the upper house of Parliament.

"The issues people raised are traditional," Natalia Kochanova informed the parliamentary corps. "A third of the appeals are elementary issues that should have been resolved locally. I know for sure that people should not be dealing with such issues for years. They must be taken under control. If it didn't work out today, do it tomorrow, but do it. This is the image of the authorities. And no one is allowed to undermine the image of the authorities. You see the situation that is developing around our country today. In this situation, we must be united as a monolith."

The Speaker expressed confidence that for people who have come to work in public service, the key should not be the satisfaction of personal ambitions and the ambitions of the leader, but care for people. In this regard, Natalia Kochanova recalled that a law on public service was adopted not so long ago.

"We will seriously address the work of rural councils," stated the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic. "At the next Presidium, we will consider the issues of the work of the chairpersons of regional councils of deputies with local councils, rural councils. Because the President has twice given a negative assessment of their work – they are working disgracefully. Rural councils should exist, they are the contact with people, it is work that is directly "in the field." But this must be done honestly and responsibly, as the President demands."

Natalia Kochanova also informed the representatives of local authorities that based on the results of the work, proposals for rewarding or punishing officials of local authorities who "shirk" and do not resolve issues brought to them will be included in the protocol record.
