Sapropel will be mined in the Liozno district, which can be used in agriculture and medicine
The Liozno District Executive Committee is considering the issue of transferring the promising sapropel deposit at Lake Buyovskoye to potential investors for development under a concession agreement. The investment proposal from the district authorities is supported by the authoritative opinion of scientists from the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus regarding the efficiency of extracting the mineral there and its potential multifaceted use.
According to Vyacheslav Chernousov, Deputy Chairman of the District Executive Committee, the scientists' conclusion states that the local sapropel has several distinctive characteristics. For instance, it is free from heavy metals, possesses therapeutic properties, and its high content of phosphorus and other substances inspires confidence in its promising use in agriculture as fertilizer, as well as for medical purposes.
The explored sapropel deposits at Lake Buyovskoye allow for extraction over 23 years with an annual harvesting volume of 10 thousand tons. If the investor has greater needs for the mineral, this period can be halved, but it will be sufficient for the payback of investment in the project, is confident Vyacheslav Chernousov. Moreover, a cheaper extraction technology can be used in this case, which does not require the involvement of imported machinery and equipment.
