Liozno celebrated the 77th anniversary of the district's liberation from Nazi invaders

В Лиозно отметили 77-летие освобождения района от немецко-фашистских захватчиков
Liozno is the first district center of the Vitebsk region liberated during the Great Patriotic War from the Nazi invaders.

The fortified defense positions of the Hitlerites in Liozno were broken by the Red Army troops on October 8, 1943, as announced by a red flag hoisted on the dome of the church in the center of the town. However, bloody battles for the complete liberation of the district center continued until October 10. Therefore, this date is celebrated in Liozno as the day of liberation from the Nazi invaders.

On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of this significant event, wreaths were laid at the "Adamenka Hill" memorial and the Central Military Burial Ground in the district center, and the renovated city stadium was solemnly opened.

Already in the morning, souvenirs could be purchased from artisans on the Central Square of the urban settlement as a memento, and farm products of the new harvest were available at the farmsteads. In the afternoon, the project "Lioznenshchyna Tasty" was presented, a humor festival and a concert were organized, and historical reconstruction clubs performed. Celebrations in Liozno will last until late evening and will conclude with a disco.

In Vitebsk, the liberation of the first district center of the region was celebrated on October 10 with the action "Let's Preserve a Peaceful Belarus!". After solemnly marching from Lenin Square to Victory Square, the participants laid flowers at the memorial complex in honor of the Soviet soldiers, partisans, and underground fighters of the Vitebsk region, and planted trees in Victory Park.
