Liozno widely celebrated the 80th anniversary of its liberation from the Nazi invaders
A holiday of freedom and liberators is celebrated in Liozno - 80 years have passed since the Red Army expelled the Hitlerites from the Liozno land. But they left behind hundreds of burned villages, thousands of killed and tortured civilians. How much more misfortune could they have brought? It's scary to think about. That's why this Victory Day, the first in Vitebsk region, is so important.
...The pouring rain did not hinder the celebration. Since morning, the district center has been receiving many guests, blazing with the diversity of flags and beckoning with the aroma of field kitchens.
Over two thousand people took part in the solemn procession. These were representatives of labor collectives, youth organizations, and official delegations from other regions of the Vitebsk region and the Russian Federation. The "Belarus Remembers" campaign gathered dozens of Liozno schoolchildren who brought photographs of their grandfathers and great-grandfathers – former front-line soldiers – to the center of the urban settlement. Some of them returned home after Victory Day, but the majority were never destined to see their loved ones. Just like those heroes whose ashes rest today in the central military burial ground, where the rally took place.
… So, on October 10, 1943, by order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, a salute of 20 artillery volleys was fired in honor of the liberation of the Liozno district.
– There were still a year and a half of difficult years left until the victorious May of 1945, and here, on the long-suffering Liozno land, a new creative life had already begun, – noted the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin in his speech at the rally, – And in this endeavor, yesterday's front-line soldiers were also the first. Together with their wives and children, as well as the widows of the fallen, they were able to rebuild the district center, destroyed settlements and villages almost from scratch in a short period of time. The entire community restored enterprises and agriculture, breathed life into this land, crippled and scorched by fire…

Alexander Mikhailovich is confident: we are all eternally indebted to the fallen soldiers, veterans, and home front workers. It is thanks toим сегодня так активно развиваются Лиозненский район и область в целом.
