The Vitebsk Region Media Center discussed the role of internationalist soldiers in the military-patriotic education of youth
At the meeting, internationalist soldiers discussed measures to improve the condition of burial sites of the fallen, touched upon issues of social protection and healthcare for veterans and disabled combatants in foreign countries, and also outlined plans for the future. After that, representatives of government bodies, the military commissariat of the Vitebsk region, military units, educational institutions, and various public associations of the city and region joined the "Afghan veterans" to discuss one of the most pressing issues – the patriotic education of youth.
According to tradition, the event began with an express briefing, during which experts – Vyacheslav Krol, Deputy Head of the Main Department of Ideological Work and Youth Affairs of the Regional Executive Committee – Head of the Department of Ideological Work, Youth Affairs, Religions and Nationalities; Ruslan Shkоdin, Military Commissar of the Vitebsk Region; Valerian Matskevich, Chairman of the regional organization of the public association "Belarusian Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan"; Natalia Bolshakova, Director of the State Educational Institution "Vitebsk City Center for Additional Education for Children and Youth" – answered questions from a random question generator.
During the event, heads of various schools and gymnasiums in Vitebsk shared their experience working with the younger generation, and experts answered pressing questions from attendees related to the interaction between public associations and state structures.
Following the panel discussion, a resolution was adopted, stating that the Vitebsk regional organization of the NGO "BSVVА" undertakes to hold the "Internationalist Warriors – To the Younger Generation" campaign in honor of the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of limited contingent of Soviet troops from the Republic of Afghanistan. During this campaign, it will ensure the participation of Afghanistan war veterans in military-patriotic events with youth in educational institutions, in organizing sports events in memory of soldiers who died in the Afghan War, and in song and discussion contests. It will also continue its work to restore the names of fallen soldiers from oblivion by installing memorial plaques on the buildings of educational institutions where they studied. This work is to be completed by the internationalist warriors by February 15, 2024, for the 35th anniversary of the troop withdrawal from the Republic of Afghanistan.
