In Miory, a rolling and finishing mill of the metal rolling plant has been commissioned
This enterprise, which has graced the small town of Miory, is one of a kind. Not only in the country, but by certain parameters, throughout the entire post-Soviet space. And there are only a few such facilities in the world. Its main products are the thinnest sheet steel, coated on both sides with a layer of tin. That is, tinplate. It also produces blackplate and cold-rolled tempered sheet. For Belarus, this is an innovative product, highly sought after by many enterprises that are currently forced to purchase it abroad. Excellent export prospects as well – the tinplate is planned to be supplied to countries in the CIS, Europe, Asia, and America.
It is not a simple undertaking; the production is large-scale and high-tech. It all began in 2012 – when "MMPZ-Group" LLC was registered in the Miory district. The main investor is an Austrian company. The investment volume is about 400 million euros. The equipment and technologies are from Germany.
Considering the strategic importance of the import substitution project, the state provided significant support to the investors. Construction was carried out in accordance with the State Program for the Innovative Development of Belarus. A 40-hectare land plot was allocated for the future plant by the Decree of the President. And in June 2014, Special Decree No. 271 was signed.

Currently, the construction and installation works have been completed. The cold rolling mill was tested in July. A little later, the electrolytic cleaning line was put into operation. Start-up and adjustment works on the annealing furnaces are being finalized.
On the anniversary of the October Revolution, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko, familiarized himself with the new production facility in Miory. With his participation, the rolling and skin-passing mill was solemnly launched. Thanks to this extensive range of equipment, the enterprise will be able to supply cold-rolled tinplate to Belarusian industrialists starting tomorrow. In a word, the long-awaited process has begun. The Prime Minister noted:
– It is symbolic that such an important event took place today, when the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant is being commissioned. The production is energy-intensive, all main technical processes have already been launched here. There are export markets. And this plant is also a good example of the effectiveness of public-private partnership for the benefit of the country's economy.
The first stage of the plant, designed and equipped in accordance with the latest European standards, will be fully commissioned in December, and its reaching design capacity is expected in the summer of next year. At the initial stage, the enterprise will be able to produce 150 thousand tons of tinplate per year, and after the launch of the second stage, its productivity will increase to 240 thousand. Specialists have calculated: in just five years, this investment project will pay off, as Belarusian manufacturers – representatives of the food, perfumery, and paint and varnish industries – purchase about 30 thousand tons of tinplate annually. And the nearest plant is located in Slovakia. Russians also import about 70 percent of tinplate into their country – this niche can also be partially covered.
It is important that along with the construction of the rolling mill, the town of Miory itself received a powerful impetus for development, practically a second life. The enterprise, which will employ about 600 people, is becoming a city-forming one. The plant workers are actively building departmental housing – a whole settlement of two-story houses has already been erected. In literally a month, a 40-apartment five-story building will be commissioned. A grandiose project of foreign investors is the construction of a super-modern, high-tech German cardiology center with a helipad in Miory. It will not only serve the enterprise employees but also take care of the residents of five nearby districts of the Vitebsk region. It turns out that thanks to the medical staff, Miory will grow by about 550 more people. Plus their families. So, with demographics, they hope in the local district executive committee, everything will soon be in order. And this means it's time to prepare the social sphere – additional places in preschool institutions will be needed, and the infrastructure needs to be improved. Soon, the construction of a new kindergarten, polyclinic, rehabilitation, and shopping and entertainment center will begin in the district center.ov. Pleasant, you must agree, chores….
